Here's a conversation piece. At your next party, you should offer this delightful snack. Top a NY Style Crispini Cracker with smoked salmon, cream cheese and fresh dill. Pair with Aecht Schlenkerla Urbock. Pour 4oz tasters for your guests to sample while they snack on the salmon. Smoked beers are definitely an acquired taste, but a 4oz pour isn't going to kill anybody. I for one love smoked beers and the right paring can enhance your experience even more. Enjoy!
All products can be purchased at the Olive Tree Market. Aecht Schlenkerla Urbock, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Nova Smoked Salmon, New York Style Crispini Crackers, and fresh dill.

I often waffle over what my favorite style of beer is. The problem is I have different cravings – do I want hops, dark roasted malts, a little funk, or a crisp lager? These are the decisions that keep me up at night – and standing in the beer aisle until my girlfriend is tugging not so gently on my arm to go.

Regardless of what your palate is craving, the most versatile beer for food pairing would have to be the Saison. It can stand up to the heartiest dishes, the spiciest seasonings, and the juiciest meats. Last night I enjoyed a To Øl Snowball Saison paired with jerk chicken, Spanish rice, and cole slaw. I was not disappointed. Snowball Saison is tangy, earthy, a little funky, and dry – a perfect with the combination on my plate.

Supplies of To Øl Snowball Saison is limited. All products were purchased at the Olive Tree. Chicken breast, Mahatama Spanish rice, and cole slaw from the deli.

Boar's Head brand Prosciutto Panino, orzo feta salad, and antipasti paired with Port Brewing Midnight Expressions. Just a little snack before dinner. I love the clean roasted flavors of this style. Light in alcohol, but full of bittersweet roastiness. This was a nice match with the savory flavors of the antipasti. After a few olives and a swig of Midnight Expressions, the roasted flavors seemed to be heightened.  Schwarzbiers are great with meats and prosciutto wrapped in mozzarella is no exception. I also had this beer with our Manhattan sandwich which is a pipping hot pastrami with provolone cheese served on a onion roll. Midnight Expressions is only available for a limited time.

Cheers,
Mike
