Thanksgiving and Beer

Many customers have been asking for recommendations for pairing beer and Thanksgiving dinner. Here are my picks and beers I'll be drinking on Thursday.

Traditional Pairing #1: Avec Les Bons Voeux - Brasserie Dupont - Saison
I look forward to this release every fall.

Traditional Pairing #2: 3 Monts Grande Reserve - Brasserie De Saint-Sylvestre - Biere de Garde
A great palate cleanser.

Traditional Pairing "Local Beer" - Red Barn - Lost Abbey - Saison
 A nice saison brewed right here in San Diego.

Pairing for a wine drinker: La Choulette Framboise- Brasserie La Choulette - Fruit Beer
This is my favorite framboise and will hold up to the sweeter portions on your plate.

Not So Traditional Pairing - Supplication - Russian River - Wild Ale
I usually recommend pinot noir to pair with turkey. Supplication is aged in pinot noir barrels so I'm hoping the subtle flavors of the pinot have the same effect. The fact that I love sours and can drink them all night helps also.

Dessert Pairing #1: 4 Calling Birds - The Bruery - Belgian Strong Ale
Goes great with holiday cookies since it tastes like one itself.

Dessert Pairing #2: Treat - Midnight Sun - Pumpkin Ale
Can't wait to have this with Julian Pumpkin Pie.

I love this meal. It's always in my monthly rotation. Hot Italian sausages with Il Primo Giardiniera peppers on a Italian sub roll. I topped it off with Boars Head spicy mustard. Beer of choice, Oppigareds Well Hopped Lager. This German Pilsner gives off those delicate herbal grass flavors that are typical for the style. A nice refreshing beer to compliment the spiciness of the peppers and sausage. I purchased all theses products from the Olive Tree Market.

Mexican and Beer

Living in San Diego you can't help but eat Mexican food at least a few times a month. Instead of popping your typical south of the border beer and adding a lime, why not chose a craft beer to pair with your taco. I picked up Deschutes Fresh Hopped Mirror Pond. The cilantro and jalapenos I added was a wonderful match with the Cascade hop. I bought all the ingredients at the Olive Tree including the freshly ground chuck. Deschutes Fresh Hopped Mirror Pond is only available for a limited time.

I love pork chops and a perfect pairing for pork chops is a doppelbock. I chose Ayinger Celebrator. The rich malty flavors of Celebrator compliments the slight fattiness of pork on the bone. A great hearty meal. You can pick up Ayinger Celebrator and this juicy pork chop at the Olive Tree.
